| Hi, what about "What do you want from your life ?" or, "Where do you see yourself in five years time ?", or "What legacy are you creating for your children ?"; I think it's important to get them thinking about their present circumstances, and also looking to the future. Also important to think about the consequences of their actions ... in terms of their future goals and life plan. I know that young people don't often think too far ahead into the future, but perhaps combined with the question you could add a photograph of a drug user so that the reality of substance abuse hits home quickly. |
| I think those are all very good questions Judy, and perhaps will do the trick rather nicely. | Talking topics pertaining to substance abuse will make a lot of young people aware of the present situation in the society as well as the challenges we face. | one could be "why do you do this?" the follow up must be " i love you but i hate the habit". this have worked in a long time. although it will take a lot of self restraint and patience so as not to make a furnace of fire to your teenage child. it is hard if you found out that they are into substance abuse. go for counselling, both of you. |
| Substance abuse surely is a serious topic to discuss with teens. And it is really hard to deal with them especially when it comes to this kind of topic. And it takes extra caution with handling teens. Like if you can check on good tips in talking to them then that would be a lot beneficial to you. And besides, you do not want your teens to misinterpret you and get rebellious over you. |
