Pain pills

I had an ex-husband who was addicted to pain pills. He has arthritis and ended up needing to take Hydrocodone quite often. He was taking double the prescribed amount. He was even going to different doctors in order to get new prescriptions as well. He needed help and chose not to get it. Basically he chose the pills over me. He is doing better now, he quit cold turkey, and wants to get back together. I'm not sure I want to go down that road again.

I have a friend who abuses all sorts of pills, i would advise you to not take him back... Because you never know if he goes back down that road and many users do from what I have seen. But it is impressive that he quit cold turkey though. How long was he abusing, and how long has he been clean now?

My husband went through the same thing. He was in a really bad car accident about 15 years ago and has had chronic back pain. He has tried everything from chiropractors, physical therapy, etc. He's done everything short of having surgery. He became addicted to pain pills but thank God was able to kick the addiction. He's been clean for about five years now.

That goodness some people can kick the habit. Have you seen the generation Rx commercials where they show teens are stealin pills from their parents and grandparents. It is so sad that our children are growing up with that going on.

Comment #4 mark from marky mark land, canada (Contact Member) -

Jules, WAY TO GO for your husband :) It's wonderful when people manage to kick the habit and mantain it for that long :)

I didn't mean to sound negative in my previous comment. It's just that I have had quite a good amount of experience where friends and family members become addicted to pills, or various drugs out there and quit for a year ot two and then relapse. So I tend to be sketchy about that sort of thing :

My dad and sister both take too many pills to kill the pain. Neither of them are on prescription pain killers. My dad is going through Inerfuron treatments. I don't know if that is spelled correctly. Oops. My sister had a husband that beat her so her head hurts a lot. The both take about 5-6 tylenol at a time. My sister takes 3-4 tylenol PM at a time. I just hope it doesn't end up affecting something like their kidneys.

I'm glad he kicked the habit, but I would definately go into counseling befor you get back together. There are reasons we easily can become addicted to things, whether it is a controlling issue to absuing drugs or alcohol. Sometimes a man will have a controlling issue with his wife and she divorces him and then he remarries, but doesn't treat the new wife that way at all.

It is a good thing that you're husband (is he still?) overcome his addiction. The next question is, do you still want to be with him or is he to you? I think Mill's suggestion is correct, go see a counselor and try to sort things out. You can't rush things.

Lack of vitamins and minerals is bad for one's health, but too much of it can be worse. A tip for everyone, try avoiding taking chemical-based medication for it has adverse effects (or side effects) on the body. Nothing beats the classic R&R, water or fruit juice therapy.

My girlfriend used to have that addiction when she had a migraine a few years ago. The solution is that I've change one of her pills into sugar based pill. It worked and I knew that the addiction is just psychological. She thought that the more pill she takes the better.

having an addiction of any kind is horriable, and is very hard to wuit especially an addiction to pain pills, because after taking them for so long you do go through a withdrawl that last anywhere from 3-5 days and the withdrawl from what I heard is terriable I just wish you all the best of luck with the struggle you have with your loved ones and their addiction.

if he is for sure done with the pills, you might want to give him another chance. if thats the reason you broke up in the first place.

it is a very good achievement to overcome an addiction to pills. talk to him and try to work it out.

My ex-boyfriends parents have a bad problem with perscription pills. My boyfriends Dad hurt his back a real long time ago and he gets about 180 oxy 40's a month. They abuse them a lot and it's really sad that they need them to go on with their day. It even effects their kids. They get really sick when they don't have them. They are both going into rehab in about a month. I will be so proud of them if the kick it. I pray for them everyday that they will be able to quit so they can have a good life.

Pain Pill Addiction is not a wise way to ease the pain of your body. These pain killers only gives temporary remedy but does not target the main source of the pain.

Pain Pill addiction is something that is very serious, and something that is very hard to quit. Sarah ;) is very right, when you become dependent on pain pills, whether you take them for pain, or take them for the high, you become dependent on them, and so does your body. Than if you run out of pills after awhile of taking them you do go through a TERRIABLE withdrawl. It is like the flu times 10. Also, sometimes you may not be able to get pain pills, and than you tend to go to other sources, such as herion, and then it just gets worse. I have had MANY experiences with friends and loved ones, who have had this happen to them, and its sad. There is help out there though, and I wish luck to those who are trying to quit, and I PREY those of you, who have never done pills never do!

What happens when you "PREY" on those trying to quiet Ms. Vanessa?

Is there any other way, an activity, or something that could prevent the abuse of these pain pill other than suicide?

Doctors, Physician and pharmacist are the one that should be blamed with this kind of addiction for they are the ones who introduced these to the poor addicted ones.

Re you out of your mind jeffrey? Why blame the doctors or the pharmacist when they are only doing their job when they prescribe medicines to sick people? This medicine are cure or if not they are there to alleviate pain, like pain killers. Those people who abuse them are the ones to be blamed not the doctors. Besides there are prescription or doctor orders that they should follow when taking up medications, they should not exceed over the prescribed amount of meds.

Comment #17 Lisa from Oklahoma City (Contact Member) -

Medicine does not cure anything... it just covers it up.

You need to build the health of your body and immune system if you want a cure.

Suggesting that anyone is "just doing their job" is a complete cop out.

To Lisa..

It is a good idea to have your immune system boosted, but have you think of those people who are immuno compromised like the aged and very young, I know that there are vitamins and supplements, still they are to take up drugs am I right?

Also for those who suffers from diseases that weakens the immune system like AIDS, they have weak immune system, and wether they work on boosting their immune system, it will be no use at all, even a simple colds might lead to pneumonia...

Well, when you said that suggesting anyone "just doing their job" is a cop out, are you nuts? of course the doctors are just doing their job when they do perform examinations and prescriptions...

Right medicine for the right need or disease of course heals.. What if you got sick Lisa, will you not take medications??

I have read from the net that Michael Jackson's death was due to painkillers as well as there are information regarding painkillers that too much use of this medicine damages the kidney that will lead to death.

Right, you all. The other one is my addiction: SLEEPING PILLS! Thatīs a bitch. Canīt sleep w/o them. How do you get rid of them? Help!

I have a rare condition called porphyria! Its sad cause I to have gotten addicted to pain killers! I've tryed talking to my doctor about alternatives but every time he would just load me up with morphine and methadone. I'm going into rehab this week to kick cause after 7 years of this I'm getting really bad! I still have the pain and I'm still looking for other ways to relive it without drugs! Its just sad how easy it is to get hooked! It starts with just taking one extra and next thing you know you are going through a month suppy in 10 days!

I do blame the doctor's but I too have to take the blame as well. Its just crazy how long I did this and my doctor never even noticed are seemed worried cause you could just look at me and tell I had a problem! It was that bad!

Arthritis and many other conditions are not at all pleasing. The pain is immense. Again, addiction to the specific drugs is not the way out. I do not understand how taking something like a double doze can help anything.

On the other hand, why blame the ones behind the manufacture of drugs? They, for goodness sake, make and prescribe medicine but not addiction.

Going back to him could work either way Karen

There you, people are to blame for they abuse the consumption of this drug. Physicians are to blame when they are wrong with their prescriptions, its negligence, other than that it is the consumers to blame for they over use the drug.

I think you just have to take your medications as prescribed to eliminate the possibility of over dosage that could possibly cause much more trouble to your body.

Comment #24 Lisa from Oklahoma City (Contact Member) -

too bad Michael Jackson didn't take your advice... oh yeah... he took what the Dr. ordered! hahahah
