A Good Salesman...

Albert from Chicago -

A good salesman can sell anything... my question is what is the best way to learn to be a good salesman?

Go and try to sell some stuff, anything get in some practice. Maybe ask some people for some good business tips. Maybe even go to collage.

Comment #2 Albert from Chicago -

Find an absolutely useless product that is way over priced. Go door to door trying to sell it. Once you become successful at that you.... you are a good salesman.

Nothing you learn in College or the best university in the world will prepare you the way door to door selling a crapping product will.

You have some good views on this Albert. You are absolutely right about learning on your own.

the best way is to rise beyond the expectation of your customer, surprise them, give them tips, be friendly.

These tips helped me tremendously thank you

make your customers trust you.

you need to have good communication with your buyer.

You need to have good people skills, good commmunication skills, and also be able to talk people into things, and make sure you have all the information needed to try and sell your product so you are prepared to answer any question the buyer may ask.

I think it is really about great social and communications skills. If you are a "talker" or a very "like-able" person I believe it will be a good start and from there work your way to the top. I believe there are websites out there which teach you to become a good conversant and a sales personnel. But I think there are quite a few better jobs out there. Try the others first. Sales business is a daunting yet challenging job and can be quite risky.

I once worked at a telemarketing company and I did really well. It surprised me how good I was because I have terrible people skills. But since I talked over the phone and didn't have to talk to them in person I did really well. I even won a big screen TV for being one of the top sellers.

Net Scourge is back, scouring the worldwide web for information you might need. Don't fret or tire yourself by going to search engines because I am bringing the websites closer to you. I've encountered a website featuring a "How To Becaome a Super Salesman" and I am sharing this to you. How can you practice when you don't even know the necessary traits to become a good one. Just follow this link:

Forget colledge. I started out in product support right out of high school. That is the key to repeat customers. Product knowledge is the way to make the first sale. Not only do you need to know your product, but it helps if you know your competitors product. I try to know more than they know about their own product. Work hard to earn their trust.

Like what we usually hear, "practice makes perfect". Of course you must first be exposed to a salesman type of environment, probably apply for one. I believe there might be some selling basics and 101 there. If not then the worldwide web is you best ally in finding nice tips about almost everything (including salesmanship) I think someone posted a link about how to be a good salesman before this response. so why don't you start from there.

So lets get down to basics and think about the skills a good salesman possesses. Actually there are probably only a few. The most important however is the skill of listening. Listening to what people say and don’t say, and listening to what they want and what they need, sometimes two different things. Linked to this is the skill of asking the right questions to find out more.

Then process starts to kick in – if you’ve listened carefully and asked searching questions you are in a better position to present solutions in terms of both features and benefits. And you are better equipped to handle objections and present logical arguments.

So if you can master the skills of listening, questioning, presenting and objection handling you are well on the way. And as with any skill practice makes perfect.

If you’ve managed to master these skills you’re likely to be far more confident to go on to the final stage, which is to ask for the business.

Comment #15 pale-o from around the world (63.176.159.45) -

First you have to know if you have the aptitude to be a good salesman because there is nothing enough in just being a salesman. You should be the persevering type who is not easily bogged down by discouragement because trust me, you will get all sorts of people out there. They say that the best way to learn is to get yourself in the field.

I recently went into a bank looking for a job and the manager was impressed and even wanted to shortlist me for a marketing interview that was on. My fear of not being experienced in marketing let me down because I resented the offer with the dtatement, 'That is not exactly my line of operation.' I should just have given in and accepted to learn.

Simply put, in life you have to be more of an all rounder!

try to tell the benefits with the product tell every thing true and talk friendly

Comment #17 Grinch Crouch (63.176.159.127) -

I highly doubt it that any salesman could make a successful sale if the customer is as grumpy and as not as welcoming as me. Just try knocking at my door and once I've known that you are one of those salesman, you'll get your unforgettable door slam. So watch out.

Poster # 17, I would keep returning to your door until you let me in. A salesman's job is challenging and it is a fact that most people normally shy away from it.

Listening to what people have to say to me will have to be secondary..you are the one who needs them to buy to product so they have to lend their ears to you, don't you think?

Comment #19 crystal from asia -

in sales, people will just buy a product that has proven results and the one that is the answers to their problem.

That is 'if' they ar to buy, but what if they are not interested even a bit? Then even if you continue knocking that is useless.

People shy away if they are ashamed on what they are doing and they are afraid of rejection, that is the reason why.

And i have to agree that people buy products that they think would have good effects on them.

Good day.. smile...

There are two types of good salesmen. There is the one that gets into the minds of their clients, while really and genuinely understanding what it is they want and need, as well as those that are able to sell anything possible. They can both be considered as very much professional, as well as talented in their own respect.

Still, I really, very much, dislike the whole concept of the sales person bid.

I cannot see myself as a sales person. I would love to be able to sell thing without having to literally sell things, but I guess we cannot all have what we wish for.
