Has anybody tried hypnosis to discover repressed memories?

I'm wonderin if anybody here has any experience with hypnosis when it comes to discovering repressed memories? I have often considered trying it out but i have heard horror stories where they discover "memories" that are not even real. Something like the doctors kind of "guide" them into it and then the brain just kind of invents as they go along. That's really scary, how do you know for sure if it's a REAL memory or not?!
