| Clutter and its effect on my happiness When I look around me, I see all the things that I thought I should keep or buy because I might need or want them. When I look around my home, I see all the good intentions in the world to make a craft here, use that filing cabinet over there to actually put away the junk on the floor, and any number of reasons for having stuff. In reality, I am cornered in my own house by the clutter I have spent my money on. I could be vacationing on the beach with my family instead of working in a cramped little corner of a bedroom surrounded by piles of stuff. What was I thinking? I always have good intentions, when I buy this stuff. I could go and actually make a scrapbook out of all the background paper and stickers I have, but I don't have time because I have to spend my time making more money to buy useless stuff. I want to have a garage sale, but I am afraid when it comes right down to it, that I won't be able to actually let go of the stuff crowing me out of my life. Am I a hoarder? |

Maybe you could sort your stuff into piles--or better yet--boxes. Scrapbooking stuff in one box, old clothes in another, etc. It's the beginning of order. Order is part of serenity--which I gather is lacking in your life at the moment. It starts with small moves. You will feel the results in your body. Our internal state mimics our external one--confusion within, disorder without. We can start with dealing with the muddle that's occupying our minds, or start with the mess in our room. Inner or outer--one reflects the other. As one gets more coherent so does the other. |

It's probably more useful to find out what to do rather than to find a label for your habit--doesn't help much to call yourself names... |
| "Collecting vs. Hoarding "
Human beings are just plain sentimental. You cannot just tell one to throw their stuffs because those junk looking things might be a treasure they had been keeping all of their lives. But there are some things that we should let go for us to welcome new stuffs. It is not bad to collect if you want to, but try to organize them, label them up and pile them accordingly. |
