isnt happy and sad emotions?

I think there is a really thin line between definitions of feelings and emotions. Happy and sad I could say are feelings because normally people will say that they are feeling bored, angry, sad and so on and so forth. I do not quite understand why it would be a neutral state yet it conotes both negative and positive aspects. Is there a possibility that these two are intertwined?

The very same Wikipedia defines an emotion to be both a mental and psychological state associated with a wide variety of feelings, thoughts and behavior. They are basically subjective in nature due to the fact that they are experienced from a personal or individual point of view.

The word 'emotion' has its origin from French. A major distinction however exists between the emotion and the results of the emotion, principally behaviors and emotional expressions.

If you remember in the movie "Equilibrium", a futuristic and fictional world without emotion is the only answer for peace and tranquility. They inhibit the manifestation of feeling and emotions to avoid conflicts, arguments and wars, thus humans are like zombies or robots but emotions is a basic human capability and that is what the character of Christian Bale fought for. A place where one can express his emotion even if it means going against the system.

Yes movie goer I love it. You see that? I was expressing my feelings about the post that you had put up. I feel love generating for that post. The love I exhibit is a feeling of my own. Love can also be an emotion, however.

Feelings directly control our emotions, they may even be interlinked. All I truly know is that without emotions, we would have no feelings and vice versa.

Feelings and emotions are always there, what matters actually is how people expresses his feelings and also emotions. There are certain emotions that must be kept and meant for keeping only. But also you can always show your emotions if you can't help it anymore. Shout if you want...

People who have problems controlling emotions, anger or angry emotions can be managed with psychological or anger management sessions.. Have you watched Anger Management?

How about the movie "Patch Adams" starring Robin Williams where he plays as a doctor who uses unconventional methods to treat his patients, and this method is through laughter and happiness. An interesting movie concerning people and emotions. A heartwarming and feel good movie which shows the laughter is one of the best medicines. for more information about that movie and the actual Doctor Patch Adams, you can read it through it Wikipedia page here:

I have also watched that movie and it is really good. I would also recommend it to other.

Emotions are emotions, it is there as part of us individuals. What we need to do is to control emotions and try not to be over acting at some times.

Without emotions, people cannot express themselves further. Through it we can show how sincere we are on the words we say and things we do.

People are so lucky to be able to have emotions, as the superior being on earth we are fortunate to have this.

With emotions we can show and express how we truly feel, so it is important that we watch what we 'emote' so we may not be tagged as a 'drama princess or drama prince' and for some 'drama gays and drama lesbians' hahaha.. i meant no offense, just kidding around.

Well, I can't completely agree with one forum's notion that emotions are exclusive only to us human beings. animals also features and shows emotions towards humans and their own. Take for instance when a dog is in danger, the animal will go in a furious rage showing that he will not go down without a fight or when his young are in danger as well. Also animals shows compassion towards their owners as well, thus proving that animals as well displays emotions.

#11

Nono

As i read the forum posts here it seems to me that there are no one to ever said that emotions are just for humans, its just that this people do not mention how animals show their emotions as well.

But i think emotions towards animals and emotions expressed by humans are largely different. I think that those expressed by animals were called 'instincts' and not emotions really.

When they are in danger, the initial response is to get furious..

#12

Yna

WEll Nono, though you have the same name as my beloved brother I will have to disagree with you on your opinion that animals do not have any emotions but rather just plain "instincts". If that is the case then humans are just acting on instinct as well for they are just acting to what the world has to offer them. Man or animals (specifically some mammals or the more intelligent species) both displays emotions. It is easy for us humans to categorize their emotions as instincts because we do not really understand them.

#13

Nono

I have to disagree. I still stand on my point.

If animals really have emotions then why the hell they just look at us when we got sad? if they have emotions then they would have known how to show sympathy or better yet empathy.

Do you see the point? Emotion have such a huge scope and meaning. When you see a dog bark, it does not mean that he is showing off some angry emotion, it is his instinct to bark when he feels that he is threatened.

By the way, have you seen a laughing or crying bird? hahaha

Thank author of this post/comment"Emotions and Cats"

You've never had pet cats obviously! They each have their own unique personalities as well as showing different emotions. Cats can play (fight) for fun and they can also fight because they are angry. There is a big difference.

Wake up and smell the coffee dude!

#15

Nono

How can you say that it is emotion they are expressing, are you once a cat?

Yes i know that those animals or your pets plays, got angry and show fury.. it is all animal instinct. Emotions have a deeper meaning and it is not just that a certain animal show fury means they are showing emotions already, or maybe if they happen to have emotions, i think it is way too far from human emotions.

How can you say that it is NOT an emotion they are expressing, are you once a cat?

#17

Eve

The Truth about Cats and Dogs. haha

Nono, it's about time you got some finger tip lashing. Still, I must agree and disagree. There is no need to blow things out of proportion either. We are civilized beings, after all. haha

Animals have feelings and humans have emotions, but do not take this statement as is, either, as animals may not all be human, but all humans are definitely animals. After all, we are categorized as such.

This being said, animals are very brilliant creatures. Though we are much more intelligent than most, I would never say that we are more so than all, because as insignificant and seemingly useless that many of these creatures may appear to be, there are many animals that are not human beings that have been utilizing this planet a lot better than any of us could ever dream.

#18

Eve

In fact, a major reason for many of us being here today is primarily because of the existence of certain animals.

#19

Eve

Animals that some of us may not even be aware of having anything to do with our very survival on this planet that is known to all of us as planet earth.

#20

Eve

Animals such as the regular honey bee, for a perfect instance. Can anyone think of any other? There are quiet several, if i may say so myself.

#21

Cherry

So much have been said about cats, emotions and animals, and even being civilized can be measured by thinking of animals have emotions. haha

No matter how hard it is to accept, animals are animals, and people have a huge difference with them, as well as what you call emotions and feelings.

But anyway, let us just be 'civilized' and try to accept each others opinion as we expect them to accept our own opinion.

#22

adam

Animals should be respected, but never treated as humans, as they cannot communicate with us in ways in which one can actually prove to be of a humanoid behavior.

#23

smithy

Treating an animal like a human is being a bit blasphemous, but not all people believe in that stuff awyways.

#24

Viola

You are right there Cherry. So much had been said on animals and their so called 'emotions'. Maybe they indeed have emotions and we should respect that as humans who are the superb being must be the ones who should understand that. But let us not take it to the level where we are thinking of animals as beings close to us humans. Have a good day everyone. Keep posting!
