| How to deal with living with someone who is bulimic..? I am currently living with my cousin who has a severe eating disorder. Food and drinks will just "disappear" and she spends a lot of time in the bathroom. She constantly lies about everything. She has seen doctors many times and has been in rehab. I want to help her, but I know she is the only one who can change herself. And this is beginning to have a huge effect on my life. Not only am I incredibly worried about her, but I cannot take the disrespect of being lied to. Nor can I afford to be replacing the food and drinks all the time! How should I approach this issue? Any advice would be helpful. |
| I would suggest that you talk to your cousin heart to heart about the situation. You can tell her that you are supporting here 100% and of course, she also needs to help herself. Is she working? If so let her contribute with the expenses in the house. Help her with her sickness. I know how it felt to be lied upon but you have to understand the situation your cousin is going through. |
| It is true what you said, that she is the only one who can really make the change, or at least the decision to make the change. Until she does that your hands are tied. If she is unwilling or unable for some reason to go back to rehab, then you are in a pickle, as it can take professional help for these disorders. One hint might be to lock up the food. |
| "It is hard when the mind is involve"
Bulimia nervosa is a hard mental illness which can't easily be addressed in one or two visits to the psychology. Patients who suffer in this condition are considered addicts, addicted to not eating. As any addicts would normally do, they would even go to the extent of lying just to satisfy what they want, in a bulimic's condition not eating. Try to lengthen your patience and understand your cousin. That's what she needed. |
| It is quite terrible when you experience such eating disorders. I think one thing that can help you overcome such kind of problem is to train yourself from the basic of eating the right food that is filled with enough nutrients. You may probably ask hep from a nutritionist who might suggest the right kind of food to take. Remember that health is important to each and everyone. Thank you. |
| the doctors are always ready to help people with disorders like this. bulimia is like laughter, it is contagious especially if you can see that it makes the person thin. chances are you will try it at first then by frequent practice, you will get the idea. the only bad thing here is the nature of bulimia a psychological disorder. if I were you, i will move away from my cousin if i think i do not have the drive of helping her all through out. |
