| How can we/I Raise awareness about real mental health issues? Specifically how can we (individually or together) raise awareness about what mental disorders actually consist of - I am really getting annoyed with the people who feel sad for a day and then can't sleep that night and jump to the conclusion they are bipolar or similar stories for schizophrenia (these seem to be the main 2 although I'm sure there must be others) So how can we get the word out about what these disorders are actually like?? @Ghostly: I know exactly what you mean about wanting shout "Attention seeker alert", It takes so much self control cometimes to try and give a balanced response that you hope they will actually listen to, What's even worse is when the same people answer other peoples questions - nothing is worse than answering a question with an answer along the lines of "You dont have bipolar here is some info" and then seeing them answer a question a day later with, "I have been told Im bipolar and i think you have ot too, you are exactly lime me" It's like a big vicious circle! I guess all we can do is keep trying 'ey! We'll get through to some at least I hope. @ Kazz: I agree 100% with you, If people took just 10 minutes to google bipolar (or almost any other disorder for that matter) people would either come to the conclusion that A. they were healthy or B. They need to see a professional. I think that again you are right and they are just asking these questions for some sort of validation so they can justify the fact that they have twisted the real symptoms to fit them. |
