snowbird from The Frozen Tundra - My mother was an alcoholic and it pretty much runs in my family. I guess I'm the lucky one. The only time I drink is when I am out at a social club. I, for some reason, cannot drink at home. I'm not even in the mood to have just one drink! Do you think it could be because my mother would get drunk every night? Comment #1 Jules from Nebraska - A friend of mine from high school refused to drink or smoke because she didn't want to turn into her mother. Her mother would get plastered every night and smoke like a chimney. She wasn't a very nice drunk either. So, I think for some people they don't want drink because they have bad memories of it. Comment #2 Poochie from the pound - My dad is a recovering alcoholic. He was basically on his deathbed because it started effecting his health as well. He stopped cold turkey about six months ago. I am so proud of him. He was a full time alcoholic for about five years straight. It was so weird because until five years ago he didn't really even drink a drop.
