Abnormal psychology is a theory I've never heard of, but it's good that these doctors and somewhat educated individuals are finally starting to realize that for some people there just aren't any patterns. People think differently according to what makes them tick. It's hard for us to find out what makes our dogs tick sometimes, far less for a thinking human being. Good progress.

Abnormal psychology is a segment of psychology that deals with psychopathology and abnormal behavior. The term covers a broad range of disorders, from depression to obsession-compulsion to sexual deviation and many more. Counselors, clinical psychologists and psychotherapists often work directly in this field.

n order to understand abnormal psychology, it is essential to first understand what we mean by the term "abnormal"? On the surface, the meaning seems obvious: something that is outside of the norm. But are we talking about the norms of a particular group, gender or age? Many human behaviors can follow what is known as the normal curve. Looking at this bell-shaped curve, the majority of individuals are clustered around the highest point of the curve, which is known as the average. People who fall very far at either end of the normal curve might be considered "abnormal."

"Abnormal behavior"

You are right, I think about understanding what is and what is not abnormal behavior being necessary.

I also think that on the bell curve of behavior, things are headed up the curve line a bit toward the crazy side.

People do things today as a matter of "normal" behavior that people two generations ago would have considered extremely abnormal.

"what's normal?"

A deep fear most of us have is that we will go crazy. And for most of us, there isn't a chance. Ordinarily, you may as well get used to the behavioral variations on normal that constitute you. It's possible to change, but it isn't done by avoiding the issue (by not taking responsibility in any of the many ways possible) but instead with the strong will to make changes and all the work that goes with it. No matter if we become the very best human being we can be, our personality will remain with us. May as well learn to live with it! Chances are, it's not that bad. You're not that bad.
